Sonora Sets Pandemic Beach Rules For Holy Week

Sonora has rolled out pandemic rules for the state’s famous beaches during upcoming Holy Week, which this year starts on March 28.

During that time Sonora’s public beaches will have limited hours and close at 8 p.m. Occupancy will also be kept at 50% of historic averages, and the sale of beer will not be allowed, according to a state summary.

Also banned are live music and the use of sound systems, including those in vehicles. Other common coronavirus prevention measures, like wearing facemasks and social distancing will also be required.

The rules are intended to help prevent a feared third wave of the virus, which has already officially claimed nearly 6,000 lives in the state. State authorities project that a third wave could lead to as many as another 2,000 deaths.
