Nearly one in four Arizonans has now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 1 million Arizonans were fully vaccinated as of Tuesday.
Heath experts say at least 80% of the population will need to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity, but Arizona's vaccination efforts continue to accelerate. The state has recently been administering more than 50,000 shots a day across hundreds of clinics, pharmacies and drive-through sites. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ranks Arizona 15th among states in terms of the percentage of the population that’s gotten a shot.
Women in Arizona continue to get vaccines in higher numbers than men. The highest rates of immunization are among older populations. In Maricopa County, about two-thirds of adults 65 or older have now had at least one shot.
In most of the state, anyone 55 and older is now eligible for a vaccine; in Coconino County, it’s 35 and older. Gila and Greenlee counties are vaccinating all adults.
