Mesa To Use CARES Act Funding To Address Homelessness

The city of Mesa has  announced a plan to use federal dollars to address homelessness.

Mesa says it is using federal CARES Act funds to help homeless people find stable housing during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funding will go to Mesa’s  Off the Streets program, which the city says has helped more than 300 people transition to longer-term housing over the past year.

The program begins by placing people in emergency shelters, like a hotel in Mesa, for several weeks, then works to move people into short-term rentals with housing assistance. The ultimate goal is to attain long-term housing without government assistance.
