2.7 Million U.S. Vaccine Doses To Arrive In Mexico Within Next Week

By next Thursday, the U.S. will have sent roughly 2.7 million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Mexico.

1.5 million doses are expected to arrive this Sunday, with another 1.2 million to follow on Thursday. That’s according to a pair of recent tweets from Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.

Canada will soon receive a similar shipment of the vaccine. The doses are being lent, not gifted to the countries, according to reportingin the New York Times.

In one of his tweets, Ebrard thanked U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken for the deal, which he says speaks to the good relationship between both countries’ presidents.

The vaccine rollout has been much faster in the United States than in Mexico, as well as in many poorer countries around the world. As of Thursday, just 6.2 million doses had been given in all of Mexico, only twice as many as the state of Arizona.
