The University of Arizona Wildcats have advanced in the NCAA basketball tournament.
Their Saturday win over Texas A&M 74-59 pushes the team deeper into the women's NCAA Tournament than ever before. The Wildcats made it as far as the Sweet 16 in 1988.
No stranger to standing out, Aari McDonald led the team with 31 points and said in a postgame interview.
“I wasn’t surprised how I was scoring. I’m confident in my abilities and once I get going I’m hard to stop. I think I’m hard to stop as it is. I’m not being cocky at all. I’m just confident in what I can do.”
McDonald, the Pac-12 player of the year, also thanked her teammates and coach.
“I am extremely proud of my teammates and my coaches. We just beat a great team that’s well coached by the legendary Gary Blair. I’m really excited and we’re peaking at the right time and ready to make some more history,” she said.
The Wildcats’ win now positions the team to tip off against Indiana University, Monday at 6 p.m. Arizona time as part of the Elite 8.
