MEXICO CITY — Medical personnel in Mexico are demanding the government keep its promise to prioritize coronavirus vaccinations for health care workers. Hundreds of doctors, most of them from the private sector, are protesting in Mexico City and preparing lawsuits, as they try to get vaccinated.
Most front-line health-care workers have been vaccinated. But the government doesn't consider other health care workers, mostly those in the private sector, a priority.
Dr. Arturo Mendoza is an internationally prominent urologist based in Mexico City. He said the government is not fulfilling its promise to protect them.
“Private practice physicians are just exactly at the same risk as government physicians, and that is absolutely unfair and even against human rights”, the doctor said.
Mendoza said it’s a shame that the government is favoring partisan interests over the interests of the people, as the lack of vaccines reaching health care workers will cause a ripple effect.
