Navajo Nation President Pleads For Residents To Practice A Safe Holiday Weekend

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez is pleading with residents not to let down their guard this holiday weekend.

According to Nez, an elderly member of the nation recently contracted the UK variant of the coronavirus even after being fully vaccinated.

“People are running around out there saying ‘I got vaccinated. I can go to wherever I want to go and not catch the virus.’ This tells you that you can still catch COVID-19 and, in this case, the variant,” he said.

Nez reiterated the importance of maintaining social distancing and still wearing masks while celebrating with family and friends as these precautions have helped lower the infection rate and number of deaths on the Nation.

To date, there have been more than 30,000 cases of coronavirus on the Nation and over 1,250 deaths.
