At Least 16 Dead After Miner Transports Crash In Northern Sonora

A horrific crash has left at least 16 dead in northern Sonora.

The incident took place early Tuesday morning on the highway between Sonoyta and Caborca, near the entrance to the Penmont-owned Noche Buena Mine.

The two vehicles involved were both transporting mine workers, according to a state release.

Fourteen passengers and the driver of a bus were injured and sent to a hospital in Caborca. All 16 people on board a van were killed, all but three of whom have been identified by authorities.

The state Attorney’s Office is investigating the incident.
