The Tempe History Museum has announced that it will reopen to the public with a new exhibit for the big kids — " Video Invaders," which is about the history of arcades and gaming with a view to games of the future.
Visitors must wear masks, socially distance and use hand sanitizer or wear gloves while playing the games, which include pinball machines and Pac-Man.
“It’s wonderful and it’s very interactive," said Brenda Abney, a spokeswoman for the city of Tempe, "but during the height of COVID, we felt interactive is probably not the best route, to be engaging people. So we waited until the numbers were really going down before we went ahead and opened.”
The museum will also have an art exhibit of video game characters made by a father-son team. Tempe celebrates its sesquicentennial this year, and the museum will have scavenger hunts and other events to celebrate.
