Silver Bridge In Grand Canyon National Park To Be Restricted

During weekday business hours, Grand Canyon hikers won’t be able to use a bridge that crosses the Colorado River.

The roughly month-long restriction along the popular Bright Angel Trail starts April 13.

The Silver Bridge at the bottom of the Grand Canyon will be closed to hikers Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

The bridge crosses the Colorado River near Phantom Ranch. Park officials said the closure is so repair work can be done on electric utilities.

During the project, hikers can still cross Silver Bridge on weekends, before business hours start, or after they end. Otherwise, people on the way to Phantom Ranch will have to use a detour that adds about a mile to the Bright Angel Trail.

The Silver Bridge is scheduled to fully reopen in early May.
