30 Mexican Soldiers Arrested In Forced Disappearances

Thirty members of the Mexican Marines have been arrested. Those arrests are tied to incidents in the northwestern Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, in 2014, according to a release from the Mexican Navy.

The Mexican outlet Animal Politico is  reportingthat the incidents actually took place in 2018.

The marines were turned over last week to the Mexican Attorney General’s office, and had arrest warrants for suspected acts of forced disappearance.

No details of the allegations were included in the release.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador acknowledged the arrests during his daily press conference Tuesday, noting that the possible human rights violations occurred during the previous administration of Enrique Peña Nieto.
