The Arizona Department of Health Services recorded nearly 47,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered April 13, bringing the total number of doses issued to 4.2 million in Arizona.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said April 13 that the Johnson & Johnson one-dose vaccine has a rare but serious side effect of creating blood clots.
Out of what they described as an “abundance of caution,” officials suggested a pause to administering that specific vaccine.
Arizona and other states quickly pulled the vaccine off the shelf.
But Naomi Lopez, director of health care policy at the Goldwater Institute, argues that approach is wrong, since the risks of complications are so low, and the risk of COVID-19 is so much higher. Lopez talked with The Show about why she thinks this pause may end up hurting people rather than helping them.
