Coverage of tribal natural resources is supported in part by Catena Foundation

Oak Flat in Pinal County has become the centerpiece of the battles between Native American tribes to preserve their sacred land and mining companies that want to generate revenue and create jobs.

Congressman Raul Grijalva has introduced legislation to ban mining at Oak Flat, but its success is uncertain.

Washington Post Reporter Dana Hedgpeth recently wrote about Oak Flat, focusing on just how unique and important the sacred land is to the Apache Tribe and others.

The Show spoke with her for more about her work.
