In a weekly press conference, Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ described a state response that appears to have caught up with COVID-19 — and vaccine demand.
But some indicators show Arizona is not out of the woods yet.
Christ says cases in the state have plateaued while utilization of hospital and ICU beds has dropped.
But the rate at which cases have leveled off is high – around 750 per day – and has crept up through the week.
"We saw a very, very slight increase in the number of cases, but overall staying relatively steady," she said.
Meanwhile, experts have seen signs of another surge cropping up elsewhere in the U.S., although vaccinations appear to have tamped down their progress somewhat.
Regarding testing, the percent positivity rate is up but remains below the desired 5% threshold.
