Pew: Arizona Gets More Of Its Money From Feds Than National Average

A new analysis from the Pew Charitable Trusts finds Arizona gets most of its total revenue from taxes. But the amount it gets from the federal government is not far behind.

Pew found 44% of Arizona’s money comes from taxes, while 40% comes from the feds; the national average is 49% of a state’s money coming from taxes and 31% from Washington, D.C.

Rebecca Thiess is manager for the Fiscal Federalism Initiative at the Pew Charitable Trusts. The Show spoke with her to learn how else Arizona compared to other states.

Arizona lawmakers and the governor are in the process of working out a budget for the new fiscal year, which starts on July 1.

To learn how these numbers may play into that, The Show spoke with Valley Economist Alan Maguire, president of the Maguire Company.
