More Than 20 Remains Recovered From Clandestine Grave Near Sonoran Capital

A group of volunteers searching for the remains of missing loved ones has discovered a major clandestine graveyard near the Sonoran capital.

The Buscadoras por la Paz, or Peace Seekers, has turned up more than 20 human remains so far at a site northeast of Hermosillo. That’s the fruit of multiple visits, which the group was alerted to by an anonymous tip, a common source of promising search sites.

“We’re going to keep going until we say there aren’t any more (bodies) here,” said Cecilia Delgado, the group’s leader.

Like many members of such organizations, Delgado started doing it in the hopes of finding a missing loved one, a son in her case.

His body was recovered last fall, but she says she’s kept at it because a nephew remains missing and she wants to support the many families still searching.
