The Arizona Department of Health Services reported 652 new cases of COVID-19 and recorded no new COVID-related deaths May 3, as is typical for a Monday as data lags from the weekend.
The state also reported that 85,000 more Arizonans were vaccinated over the weekend.
Nearly 3 million people have received at least one dose here. More than 40% of Arizonans have been vaccinated.
But when you look more closely at those numbers, disparities become clear. Nearly half — 48% of those vaccinated — are white. Just 13% are Hispanic. That’s despite the fact that the Hispanic community here was one of the hardest hit by COVID-19, and Latinos account for 32% of the population in Arizona.
