Arizona Restaurateurs Support Gov. Ducey Reinstituting Unemployment Benefit Rules

Gov. Doug Ducey has lifted his 2020 executive order that removed the requirement for unemployed people to be actively looking for work.

The move is welcomed by many in the business community trying to ramp up staffing as millions of Arizonans get vaccinated and are returning to pre-pandemic behaviors such as dining out.

Some people were making more on unemployment than they were working, and so it’s ironic to see that, but maybe somewhat understandable as well,” said Steve Chucri, president of the Arizona Restaurant Association.

Some restaurateurs like Fred Morgan who co-owns a fast casual chain  admitted last month on PBS’s “Arizona Horizon,” that stimulus money is one aspect, but “We’ve lost a lot to different industries — a lot of tech, as you know, are moving to Arizona, and they’re hiring like crazy.”
