Sonoran Searching Group Founder's Son Survives Shooting

The son of the leader of a Sonoran group dedicated to searching for missing loved ones survived a shooting Friday.

Cecilia Delgado, founder of the Buscadoras de Paz, or Peace Seekers, said her son was shot once in the back, and that his prognosis at first was not good. But now he’s back home and recovering well.

“I’ve already lost one son, I don’t want to lose another,” she said, referring to a once missing son whose remains were recovered last fall.

State authorities are investigating the incident, and Delgado says they have not ruled out a possible connection to her searching work. Earlier this year the Buscadoras found a massive clandestine graveyard to the northeast of Hermosillo, and have since recovered two dozen bodies from it during ongoing visits to the site.
