Gov. Doug Ducey wants the U.S. Defense Department to look into possible groundwater contamination near air force bases in Arizona.
In a letter last week to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the governor asked the Department of Defense to take action to identify and treat water in Arizona contaminated by perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS.
He’s specifically asking for this to be done in the areas around Luke Air Force Base, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, the former Williams Air Force Base in the East Valley and Morris Air National Guard Base in southern Arizona.
The Show spoke with Misael Cabrera, director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, about what he’s hearing from residents in the affected communities.
