Arizona State Troopers Sent To Defend Secretary Of State

Gov. Doug Ducey has ordered a detail of Arizona state troopers to protect the state’s top election official and her family.

Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said on social media Thursday that she received multiple death threats. Hobbs wrote on Twitter that she and a staffer were chased by an unknown man outside of her office. She added that rhetoric used by organizers and allies of the state Senate’s audit of Maricopa County ballots made them complicit in the threats against her life.

At a press conference Thursday, Hobbs continued to warn against the private firm reviewing the election.

On Wednesday, she sent a letter to coordinator Ken Bennett questioning the audit procedures.

Bennett’s Friday reply dismissed Hobbs’ concerns and accused her of violating a legal settlement.

Bennett sent the letter around the same time word came that state troopers had been told to protect Hobbs.
