Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs told CNN on Monday that the Maricopa County election audit lacks credibility.
Hobbs says the Senate Republicans are just trying to “placate” a part of their base.
“They’re making this up as they go along. There’s nothing about this so-called audit that is legitimate at all in terms of an actual election recount or audit. And so you know they’re just going to try to continue to sow doubts among voters and undermine the integrity of our elections.”
Hobbs also says that the Jan. 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol should have "lowered the volume" and lessened debate on the election. She says the state Senate’s audit is continuing to perpetuate former President Donald Trump’s unfounded claim about the election.
Hobbs was assigned police protection last week by Gov. Doug Ducey because of threats made against her.
“This is the politicians, the Republicans in the state Senate trying to placate a part of their base and it is to the detriment of our democracy,” says Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs on the state’s ballot audit efforts. https://t.co/8QUwThwkqy pic.twitter.com/tDdlAcV3pK
