The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released the results of its largest study yet of the real-world effectiveness of mRNA vaccinations among health care workers.
The study of more than 1,800 participants in 25 states found mRNA vaccines like Moderna and Pfizer reduced the risk of getting sick with COVID-19 by 94% among fully vaccinated health care workers.
The results, which independently confirm clinical studies, have informed recent CDC safety recommendations for people who are fully vaccinated and underlie the agency's support for authorizing Pfizer vaccines for 12- to 15-year-olds.
The CDC says the findings support its recommendation that everyone should get both doses of an mRNA vaccine to receive the most protection.
