County supervisors had passed a mask mandate last December. And in March, officials had decided that Gov. Doug Ducey didn’t have the legal authority to stop the county health department from keeping the mandate in place.
With just one supervisor opposed, the board voted Friday to ease its mask rule.

Supervisor Matt Heinz voted to rescind but with caution.
"We still are in a pandemic. I think it’s important to point that out," he said.
County health officials estimated that about 40% of all residents have been vaccinated, and masks are still recommended.
