Arizona State Treasurer Kimberly Yee has announced that she’s running for governor.
“I’m running for Governor to put Arizona first, to ensure our children have the same opportunities and freedoms my family found here, and that starts with securing our southern border.” Yee said in a Monday statement announcing her candidacy.
Yee’s also a West Valley small-business owner and strong supporter of former President Donald Trump. The new Republican gubernatorial candidate’s platform includes border and election security, according to her website.
Arizona Board of Regents member Karrin Taylor Robson also has announced she’s running for governor. On the Democrats side, former Nogales mayor Marco Lopez has announced he’s also running for governor. Candidates must win their party's primary before running in the general election.
Gov. Doug Ducey's second term ends in 2023, and Arizona state law bars him from serving more than two consecutive terms.
