A federal consumer-protection agency, Arizona and a handful of other states have sued an internet service provider over download speeds.
The company, named Frontier Communications, says all allegations against it are baseless.
The Attorney General’s Office said most of Frontier’s Arizona customers live in rural communities.
Arizona has joined the Federal Trade Commission and others to accuse Frontier of lying about the speed of certain internet service that runs over copper telephone lines. Then, in turn, it allegedly billed customers for more expensive service than what was actually provided.
A Frontier spokesperson said its lawyers will vigorously defend the case, adding the company’s marketing told the truth about internet speeds offered, and the payout requested by Arizona and its legal allies overestimates any possible financial loss to customers.
