A bill that would have prevented businesses from requiring their customers and clients to be vaccinated failed in the Arizona Senate.
On a mostly party-line vote, Republicans argued that the bill protects individuals from government overreach. But Republican Sen. T.J. Shope disagreed and voted no.
"This bill in its current form would have the heavy hand of government shut that business down and leave that individual without a livelihood, and that is something that I cannot stand for," Shope said.
House Bill 2190 would have made it a felony for businesses to condition services on a customer’s vaccination status.
