Chandler Police Offering Hiring Bonuses To Recruit More Employees

Chandler has announced a national campaign to recruit new employees to work for the city Police Department.

The city is hiring police officers, detention officers and dispatchers.

Communications Director Matt Burdick says the city is offering financial incentives to attract police officers from other jurisdictions, "for up to $5,000. A new recruit to the Police Department, as a police officer, would be eligible for $3,500."

He says Chandler is trying to stay competitive with other agencies around the country. Burdick says the Police Department expects it will need to hire 40 officers over the next year due to upcoming retirements and adding new positions.

The annual salary for a Chandler police officer starts at $26 an hour.
