Arizona Corporation Commission Requires Electric Companies To Go Fully Carbon-Free By 2070

The Arizona Corporation Commission reversed course May 26 and adopted — preliminarily, at least — clean energy mandates that require electric companies to get all of their electricity from carbon-free sources like solar, wind and nuclear power plants by 2070.

The move came on the heels of an earlier decision that would have required energy companies make that change by 2025. But that previous decision would have suggested energy companies make the switch to renewable energy, rather than mandate it.

The Show spoke with Amanda Ormond, an energy policy consultant with the Ormond Group, a pro-clean energy firm, to learn more about the decision.
