Budget Vote Delayed As Lawmakers Critique Plan

State lawmakers planned to hold a vote on a budget proposal for the upcoming fiscal year May 26, but the budget train got derailed — at least for now.

That nearly $13 billion budget plan faces blowback from Republicans who think it spends too much and from Republicans who still don’t see their priorities reflected in the plans.

But perhaps the most controversial provision is a huge income tax cut that would mostly benefit the rich — to the tune of nearly $3 billion over the next three years.

The state Senate has pledged to try again to bring the plan to a vote May 27.

To parse out the latest legislative maneuvering, The Show spoke with Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services.
