Historic Tovrea Castle In Phoenix Opens Tour Lottery Due To High Demand

Sightseers interested in touring the historic Tovrea Castle in east Phoenix will need some luck on their side.

After a successful first run in the spring, the Tovrea Carraro Society is running another lottery to tour the landmark that resembles a wedding cake.

The castle was constructed in 1930, but public tours of the building have only been offered since March 2012.

Tamera Zivic of the Tovrea Carraro Society says the idea for a ticket lottery was considered before the pandemic, but unable to be utilized until this year.

“We had a situation where thousands and thousands of tickets were selling out online within minutes, and people just, were frustrated, weren’t able to get the tickets that they wanted,” said Zivic.

Because the castle is a city-owned building, safety provisions like masks, tour occupancy limits and social distancing are still in effect.

The lottery for the fall season of tours is open until June 30.
