As of Sunday, over 5.8 million vaccine doses have been administered in Arizona, fully vaccinating a little over 46% of the population.
Some states around the country have started offering financial incentives to those who still need to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
While that has not happened in Arizona, Dr. Shad Marvasti with the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix, says it may be a good idea to implement incentives to get reluctant residents vaccinated.
“When you start to engage in community life in terms of going to public gatherings like concerts or sporting events, whether you’re vaccinated or not actually affects the wellbeing of others," Marvasti said.
Marvasti also says he would rather see vaccines be required at certain events, especially at high-risk activities. He says mandatory vaccines aren’t new. Schools, organizations and travel to certain countries, have similar requirements. But he says the next best thing may be an incentive.
