Congress will vote on the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act later this month.
The bill was developed with bipartisan support, and the proposed $200 billion act would bolster microchip manufacturing in the U.S. as well as provide incentives for foreign companies that enjoy state-subsidizing. It would also inject billions into other tech sectors.
Nearly a quarter of the $200 billion would go toward the semiconductor industry. And currently, Arizona is emerging as a potential global leader in chip manufacturing.
This growth isn’t restricted to Arizona — the entire Southwest is enjoying a manufacturing boom.
Between 2017 and 2020, 100,000 manufacturing jobs were created from Nevada through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma — about a third of the nation’s job growth during that period.
