Phoenix Makes Room For More Rooftop Solar Panels, Inspectors

The Phoenix City Council is trying to make it cheaper and easier for residents to install solar panels on their homes.

Mayor Kate Gallego said a recently approved measure maximizes the number of roof panels allowed.

Most residential solar in Phoenix is on rooftops. This week’s council action means homeowners will now get more roof space for panels. More panels means more kilowatt hours of photovoltaic electricity.

“Helping reduce your bill and making your system pay back even more quickly than it would otherwise,” said Gallego.

The mayor and council also approved a new inspection team to work on residential solar and energy systems. The move adds resources to an existing program as residents have said they want to avoid lengthy inspection delays.

“We have seen a huge increase in the number of applications. We believe we are on pace to double the number of applications,” said Gallego.
