Audit, Review Or Investigation? What Professional Auditors Are Calling What's Happening In Maricopa County

“Forensic audit,” “fraudit,” “grift,” “clown show” — the Arizona Senate’s partisan recount of 2020 ballots in Maricopa County has been referred to by many titles, depending on who’s describing it.

Republican senators who have backed the plan insist it’s a legitimate forensic audit, while Democrats and Republicans who defend the election have called it more akin to a “fraudit” or fraudulent audit.

But what do auditors think of the vernacular we use to describe what’s happening at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum?

The Arizona Republic’s Jen Fifield asked, and she  found that very few auditing professionals are comfortable calling what the Senate is doing an “audit.”

The Show spoke with Fifield to learn about how experts received the review.
