Arizona has reached the 6 million mark for COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the state since December, the Arizona Department of Health Services announced Monday.
More than 3 million Arizonans have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 2.9 million have received two doses, according to AZDHS.
Gov. Ducey Ducey credits this milestone to the hard work of nurses, doctors, pharmacists, staff and volunteers.
Despite the milestone, Arizona’s vaccination rate still lags behind the national average, according to data from theCenters for Disease Control and Prevention.
This announcement comes as the state is getting ready to phase out its mass-vaccination sites, which were responsible for administering 1.6 million doses, by the end of the month. The vaccines will still be available at a number of neighborhood options including pharmacies, doctors' offices and pop-up clinics.
“It’s never been easier to protect yourself and your community by rolling up your sleeve,” AZDHS Director Dr. Cara Christ said. “Vaccination is safe, highly effective, free, and available by walking in at hundreds of locations across the state.”
