ASU Ecologist Dives Deep To Map, Save Coral Reefs

You might not think of Arizona State University and immediately think of coral reefs or places like Hawaii. But Greg Asner connects it all.

Asner is the director of ASU’s Center for Global Discovery and Conservation Science, which is located in Hawaii. It works to stop climate change from continuing to destroy the world’s coral reefs.

These environmental havens are under serious threat from climate change as more are bleached as the oceans warm. But some reefs are capable of being saved — with the limited resources available.

Researchers like Asner are using planes souped up with new spectroscopic imaging technology to map them and determine which ones they’ll be able to bring back to life.

The Show spoke with Asner to learn more about his work.
