Scottsdale Airport To Close Runway For Major Repairs

Scottsdale calls its airport — which is one of the busiest single-runway facilities in the U.S. — an economic powerhouse.

The landing strip known as a home to corporate jets is set to close in July for its first ever major repairs.

The Scottsdale Airport runway was built nearly a mile long in the 1960s, extended in the '80s, and widened in the year 2000.

The city says the airstrip is in critical need of major repairs, so the Scottsdale Airport will close for all aircraft operations for roughly 45 days starting July 6.

The closure might subtract around 20,000 takeoffs and landings, based on 2019 data.

The start of runway work was facing delay. But the mayor has credited Congressman Greg Stanton for unlocking millions of federal grant dollars needed for the project to be done this summer.
