Coverage of tribal natural resources is supported in part by Catena Foundation
The Havasupai Tribal Council has made the decision to continue keeping tourists from visiting the tribe’s picturesque land, located at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
Tribe spokesperson Abby Fink said the tribe shut down visitation in 2020 due to the pandemic and will continue until at least February 2022.
“They recognize the love of Havasu Falls and the intense interest in coming to visit, but in the best interest of the health and safety of not only the tribal community but the tourists that come every year, they felt it was the best decision,” she said.
Fink added the decision was not easy, and tourists who had reservations during the continued tourism suspension but haven’t rebooked are being rescheduled for the same dates in 2022.
