Maricopa County Working To Prevent Heat-Related Deaths

It’s June in Phoenix, and that means hot temperatures every day.

But last week’s highs of 117 and 118 degrees put us into an extreme level and increased the danger to homeless, low-income and elderly residents alike who struggle to afford air-conditioning on a regular basis.

Heat-related deaths were in the hundreds last summer in Maricopa County, and the county is looking into 10 possible heat-related deaths already this season.

To learn what can be done to prevent them, The Show spoke with Marcy Flanagan, executive director for Maricopa County Public Health.
