Nearly All Arizona National Forests Facing Broad Shutdowns As Fire Danger Remains High

Nearly all the national forests in Arizona are enacting broad shutdowns this week as firefighting resources run thin and fire danger remains high.

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests will close Thursday.

The Prescott National Forest will closeFriday. Debbie Maneely with the U.S. Forest Service says the forest will close, but Lynx Lake and Granite Basin will remain open.

"They will be open only for water recreation. So you can go there and fish, you can swim, you can kayak and paddle board, but you will not be able to leave the water area and go on any of the trails around there," Maneely said.

The Tonto National Forest will also close Friday, along with state trust land throughout Arizona.
