How Renewed Government Interest In UFOs Could Unlock New Scientific Discoveries

American intelligence officials are set to release a declassified report this week on Department of Defense investigations into unidentified aerial phenomenon — better known as unidentified flying objects or UFOs.

After decades of eye-rolling from intelligence officials, at least publicly, the military is taking these unexplained phenomena seriously. That change in posture might trickle down to the sciences — and treating UFOs as something more serious could unlock new scientific discoveries.

Christopher Impey is a distinguished professor of astronomy at the University of Arizona.

The Show spoke with him about UFOs and whether this government interest could legitimize the field of UFO research.
