For the second year in a row, Flagstaff will not celebrate the Fourth of July with city-sponsored fireworks due to restrictions put in place to prevent wildfires.
In 2020, Flagstaff’s Fourth of July events like parades were often canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions, as no more than 10 people could gather in one place.
Fire restrictions prohibited those in the city from purchasing and using fireworks in 2020, and the same is now true for 2021.
Stage Four Fire Restrictions, which have been in place in Flagstaff since June 23, also include temporary bans of outdoor grills and smoking in public places.
The Flagstaff Urban Trails System’s paths leading into Coconino National Forest are also partially closed under the restrictions.
The forest itself has been closed since June 23.
