As Tempe Streetcar testing begins Monday, residents should expect to see the vehicles out on the tracks in the coming days and weeks.
While the streetcar isn’t allowing passengers yet, Valley Metro is working to incorporate the vehicles into Tempe traffic.
Passenger cars will be able to drive on the rails while the streetcar is in service, so Valley Metro urges drivers to treat the streetcar like any other vehicle on the road.
Other safety tips include keeping bikes and scooters off of the tracks, as the grooves are wider than a normal bike tire, and looking and listening before crossing the tracks in designated crosswalks.
It is currently unknown when the streetcar will begin transporting passengers, but the project is in its second-to-last stage and is expected to launch later this year.
