Dozens of day cares across neighboring Sonora are set to reopen, even as coronavirus cases rise.
Mexico’s federal social security institute (IMSS) recently said that it would reopen its 71 day care facilities in the state on Thursday.
This comes after the state health council recently decided that daycare operators could determine for themselves whether or not to reopen.
Dr. María de Lourdes Díaz, the institute’s head in the state, said that strict pandemic protocols — like the wearing of face masks and social distancing — would be observed, according to a recent release. Day care personnel are also already vaccinated.
The decision comes after several sustained weeks of case growth, and worries about Sonora returning to high risk on the federal coronavirus scale.
