Demolition Of Phoenix Paradise Valley Mall Underway

The first phase of redevelopment at Paradise Valley Mall got underway on Wednesday.

Crews began demolishing the former Sears and Macy’s stores at the site at Cactus Road and Tatum Boulevard. Demolition is expected to last through 2021, according to Red Development.

The Phoenix City Council approved the redevelopment plan in February.

As KJZZ reported last November, Paradise Valley Mall owner Macerich is working with Red Development to turn the indoor mall into an outdoor destination with green space and trails throughout the project. Plans call for up to 2,500 apartments in a building that could reach up to 10 stories, along with a mix of restaurants, retail shops, a grocery store, offices and self-storage.

Construction on a Whole Foods grocery store and some of the residential and retail spaces is slated to begin this fall.

The Costco, parking garage and Phoenix's library branch will remain.
