All Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers will be equipped with body-worn cameras thanks to the new state budget approved last week.
But at the same time, lawmakers signed off on a policy that restricts the kinds of video from those cameras that can be released to the public.
ASU professor Mike White says DPS is a little late to the game, in terms of having its officers wearing body cameras, but that it’s a positive thing they’re being deployed now.
White is with ASU's School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and is co-director of training and technical assistance for the U.S. Justice Department’s Body Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program.
The Show spoke with him to learn his reaction to this policy and how it could be enforced.
