Phoenix Mayor Gallego Talks Infrastructure With Biden; Transportation Secretary Buttigieg Coming To AZ

The mayor of Phoenix was among a group of top state and city officials who talked infrastructure with President Biden on Wednesday at the White House.

On Thursday, a member of Biden’s cabinet is scheduled to visit Arizona to push a bipartisan blueprint for a deal reached less than a month ago. The framework for an infrastructure bill is all that has so far been agreed by a small group of Republicans and Democrats in the Senate.

But those who met with Biden in the Roosevelt Room on Wednesday were still able to talk about funding levels for infrastructure, said Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.

“It could be a historic bill. It was exciting to be at the White House when we’re talking about passing legislation that could catapult us internationally to being in front of the pack for infrastructure,” she said.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg plans to keep pushing for an infrastructure bill during a trip to metro Phoenix.

Buttigieg is scheduled to hold a press conference downtown with Gallego and others before taking part in a roundtable talk with tribal leaders.
