The Arizona Governor’s Office sent two letters to Peoria Unified School District and Catalina Foothills School District, informing them that their quarantine policies for unvaccinated students were breaking the law.
But both districts are pushing back.
In a statement, Julie Farbarik, a spokesperson for Catalina Foothills School District in Tucson, says they are “perplexed” by Ducey’s letter. She says public schools use quarantine and isolation practices established by the Arizona Department of Health Services. And currently, both Catalina Foothills School District and Peoria Unified School District are doing just that.
The statement goes on to say the letter suggests the state health department's own guidance violates state law.
Both school districts said in statements that they would either follow up or look forward to addressing the issue.
