U.K. Study: Half Of People Hospitalized With COVID-19 Develop Complications

Suspected pandemic-related hospitalizations have reached a four-month high in Arizona.

Now, a new study in the journal The Lancet finds one in two people who are hospitalized with severe COVID-19 develop complications.

Of more than 73,000 adults hospitalized with severe COVID-19 in the United Kingdom study, almost half developed one or more health complications.

The most common maladies involved the kidneys and respiratory system, but patients had cardiovascular, neurological, and gastrointestinal and liver conditions as well.

Complications occurred at high rates across all age groups.

The authors say such illnesses could limit patients' capacity for self-care and put a future strain on social and health care networks.
